Konami to Release 'Yu Gi Oh! Crimson Crisis'

Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. Announces Plans for
Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME Crimson Crisis Retailer Sneak Peek

Chance for Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Duelists to Experience Sneak Peeks at Their Favorite Hobby Stores

Dear Duelists,

Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. (KDE) is putting the final touches on the company’s plans to launch nationally its Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) sneak peek events beginning with the soon-to-be released Crimson Crisis booster set. Crimson Crisis (MSRP $3.99 per nine-card pack) will be released at local hobby stores participating in KDE’s sneak peek extravaganza on February 28 and March 1, depending on the stores’ preference. The Crimson Crisis booster set will be available nationwide at those hobby stores not participating in the sneak peek event and retailers on March 3.

Duelists won’t have to look around to find the best deal in town; they just need to head to their favorite hobby gaming store for Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG sneak peek events. We are offering kits featuring Crimson Crisis to all hobby store owners who would like to host a sneak peek. Crimson Crisis will introduce new cards used by Yusei, Jack and Aki from the hit TV show, “Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s,” in addition to the introduction of the mega powerful Assault Mode monsters.

Every participant will receive five packs from the Crimson Crisis expansion set, plus an additional pack for playing and the Colossal Fighter/Assault Mode promotional card, while supplies last. Duelists interested in participating in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Crimson Crisis TCG sneak peek should tell their hobby store to contact KDE customer support at 310-220-8630 or us-cardsupport@konami.com.

Crimson Crisis establishes the all-new Assault Mode monsters and Synchro Monsters which can be transformed to Assault Mode, making them incredible fighting forces with massive attack points and potent effects. This all-new 100-card booster set will improve any Duelist's collection with the new Synchro Monsters, Tuners, and new themes like the Dark "Blackwing" monsters. Duelists everywhere beware because the onslaught of Crimson Crisis is drawing near! Each box contains 24 packs.

We look forward to seeing all of you at these and future events.

Happy gaming!

Yumi Hoashi
Vice President of Card Business

1st Comment

*sigh*... They are seriously not making smart moves here... Disobeying Court Orders to keep their contract... Killing Judge support...

Joenen - 22. Jan, 09:10

Best news, ever. Looks like konami is taking over after all. This is awesome, finally an easy, inexpensive way to go to sneak peaks. Awesome Idea konami, it helps individual businesses alot too, a great way to expand the game is to make it easier to get to events, wonder what'll happan though with ude, are they putting up a fight or not? did they get owned in some court? Any info on that? Anyways yay.

Johnist - 22. Jan, 09:21

Wizards of the Coast Tried "Hobby Previews"

For MtG, and they failed miserably because people were dissatisfied with the fact they couldn't go to a big sneak and meet a lot of new people, find out how others who aren't at their locals view specific decks and card theories and what not.

This is a bad move on Konami's part, plus they don't require any sort of testing for being a judge, or anything. there is no OP support from this angle.
darkgardna - 22. Jan, 21:23

however...

Magic seems to cater to a completely different calibur of player, most if not all of the magic players i know are around 22+ while with the few exceptions that i tend to run into, (ya my self included) yugioh caters to a younger age group they don't seem to be as dependent on input from other players. (course it may be diffrent there are allot of selfish little kids who attend where i play, while if i wanna have an adult conversation i've got to attent the magic tourny the previous day) it may end up just like magic as you say but there is also a strong possability that due to the diffrence hobby Sneaks for yugioh will be a complete sucess

KONAMI????????

Ok, its great to read, that the Sneak Preview will be held and to know what the Promo will be (which I do NOT like <.<).
But why do this news come from KDE?? o.O Is there someone who know anything about this??

darkgardna - 22. Jan, 10:03

oh dear...

this is the sort of thing that makes me nervous it fly's in the face of the court ruling i wanted Konami in charge but the way things are going i doubt UDE will sit still for this i'm betting we've not heard the end of this

TriforceMaster3000 - 22. Jan, 12:40

Ugh.

Now I'm confused. This whole battle between the companies. Now KDE is the one making this announcement. What the hell.

I just want to have fun with the game. I liked my sneak previews the way they were. I don't want to have to worry what's going to happen to the game every time something stupid like this happens. I'm sure I'm not the only one confused by this.

If Konami is now in charge, that's great, can't wait to see what they'll do, but hopefully UDE will STFU and not further things. I honestly don't care who is in charge, I just want things back to normal, with this being a friendly competitive game that I can invest my money in. At the moment, that remains to be seen.

If things don't shape up, I'm soon going to just bail. I've been much too busy to do anything with the game as of late anyways and the extra money I use on cards can easily be invested in more games or stuff for school. Hopefully things work out...

Organized Play - KDE Support = NONE!

I feel that this is the main and true proof of KDE's willingness to kill the "organized play" program that UD has spent the years building to the grand scale that it is.

This is definitely not a "Seamless Transition" that KDE claimed to want.

KDE will most likely NOT re-instate the monthly-bimonthly Regionals, the 2009 Nationals will probably be canceled, and what not.

UD has been a very supportive company where Organized Play was concerned, including providing tests and requirements for Judges. KDE has NO TESTS, and NO REQUIREMENTS for Judging.
ShinobiPhoenix - 23. Jan, 14:25

To Johnist:

You make it sounds like the so-called "requirements" for Judging made things any better or worse.

All the changes to the Judge Program and most judges are still just incompetent, title-humping prats. I've personally seen and heard so many horror stories about bad, biased or "ilknowledgeable" judges who are more interested in pushing their titles and decision than being correct.

For example: After TDGS was released, what judge would deem that a person can't declare "Psychic" as an option for DNA Surgery and D/Q the person for calling them on their bullcrap? No, he wasn't being disrespectful or against the rules before that. For the most part, the judge was either an idiot or a dick helping his friend.

My point is being biased toward EITHER sect isn't actually helping the game and all the excuses in the world doesn't change that. All it does it further promote the dissension that's splitting this game in the first place and literally having created the very situation we are in. We don't really know any of the true internal affairs of what's going on and we're not going to.

UDE far more than Konami has proven they aren't above manipulation and "image coaching" to alter Public Opinion to create support for what they want, similar to the Bush Administration. "Always blameless."

The best answer: Trust No One

UDE > Konami

Sorry, but when it comes to tournaments and events, UDE wins hands down. As Johnist has stated, they have spent years perfecting a great tournament community for TCG territories, something Japan does not have. Japan has a crapload of locals, but that's mostly it. Most of their tournaments are not organized or connected to each other in any way, shape, or form or held or approved by Konami or UDE. It's pretty much walking to your corner hobby store and partaking in their weekly tourneys. That's mostly what Japan is.

But us in the states and PAL regions are offered much, much more. We have everything Japan has and more, including Sneak Preview Events and SJCs, which are very popular among TCG players, especially the latter.

The only thing Konami excels in is the way they produce their stuff. I'm sure most will agree. Compare our Secret Rare, $200+ Dark Armed Dragon to Japan's Base Rare, $10+ Dark Armed. And the fact that they have their exclusives.

But honestly, the rarities sucked ass from TAEV until LODT. From TDGS and onward, our rarities are actually better now. So there's not much need to complain about future rarities because whoever decides them (either UDE or KDE, I honestly don't know who decides) was finally getting them right. Not to mention UDE has been whoring special products out for the past year or so to get us all those promos Japan had that were being waited on, including Gorz and Dandylion. And even though some people deem them crappy, the TCG exclusives are insanely good. Compare a TCG LS deck to an OCG LS deck. You'll notice with the absence of Charge and Ehren from the OCG deck, it's kind of weaker than the TCG build. So in all honesty, even though Konami the OCG excels at better cards, UDE has been working their ass off to get us those cards and more, and the past few months they've finally been doing it right in my opinion.

So why give up the tournament scene? As stated, our cards are finally getting up to par with Japan's, so we have mostly what they have and more with our tournament scene. Why take them away? Some would, seeing the rise in the tournament scene over the past few years thanks to UDE, consider the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG as a sport-of-sorts, because of all the competitiveness that is spread nation-wide. Taking away the whole tournament scene pretty much takes it back to 2002 or 2003 when it was just the new thing on the playground. I'm sorry, but I don't want to take all those steps back. Keep the game at it's competitive level Konami, please.
Doomfire - 4. Feb, 17:29

do you even know what japan is like? people don't spend their lives and money on card games. they spend it on education and a carreer. in highschool there, they spend 2 straight months studying for entrance exams for college and not even a quarter of those kids get into college so konami has no need to make SUPER events.
brutalmugen - 22. Jan, 13:18

PPL REREAD INJUNCTION

ok ppl if u read the thing u know ude only got the right to european territories not north america,so from my understanding its ok and not disobeying.

also look at the sneak peak title US sneak peak by konami

essex4515 - 22. Jan, 13:42

Thank you!! THANK YOU!! I was so worried about the game with all these delays!! YEAH!

Honestly, I don't care who distributes as long as we receive new cards/packs. That's what it's all about, right?? The game! I'm SO excited again!! I can't wait! I can't stop using exlcamation points!!! :-)

Dragon King - 22. Jan, 15:34

now maybe me and my friend can now.
Forget the Upper Deck Day thing. It's too far for me,it's in the city and it is a 1 hour and 56 min drive for me. And it was on a Sat(so my buddy has to work that day). The hobby,we go to is only 54 mins away. So this is GREAT!!!
chaos20022002 - 22. Jan, 20:44

Huzzah!

all i can say is that i'm just glad we're getting the set (knock on wood)
but i can see problems with it already, UDE won't take his laying down

Great Shogun Shine - 22. Jan, 20:56

Does this meen that the Sneak Preview is not canceled? And they moved it to February 28th/March 1st?

wolfchadren - 22. Jan, 23:50

that's correct ^^
Aura_Sphere - 23. Jan, 07:17

I don't care who release it, as long as we're getting Crimson Crisis....

EvilAzn - 23. Jan, 09:31

So..

while the US and Canada get to experience Konami. Europe and Australia (yes are a continent) still have Upperdeck. There might be some tensions if this is the case to see which Sneak Peek is better.

SilentMagician - 26. Jan, 00:51

Something that will interest people here is the reason behind Konami's termination of their contract with UDE in the first place.

A few months ago Konami found out that company called Vintage had been distributing counterfeit Yu-Gi-Oh cards. Upon further investigation UDE was named the source of the counterfeit cards. Konami has requested UDE provide information and an explanation about this, to which UDE has yet to do. Instead they threatened Konami with “mutual assured destruction” if Konami made public their role in the distribution of counterfeit goods. Konami then informed UDE that they would be adding UDE name (as a defendant) to the lawsuit they have against Vintage. And thus Konami terminated their contract with UDE. Keep in mind that this lawsuit is still pending and that that "major victory" UDE won was the right to continue to distribute the cards until the lawsuit was finished.

Knowing this I'd say Konami had every right to terminate their contract with UDE. Keep in mind that UDE involvement has yet to be confirmed. However, if they were innocent in this why have they refused to provide information proving their innocence? It also sheds a different light on UDE allegations against Konami.

arapokemaster - 26. Jan, 02:26

This is good and bad at the same time. But change is not always bad

I was informed by this about 3 days ago Jaelove on pojo posted it on his Pojo Bombshell thread # 1 and 2.He got it from real court filings. Not many people believed him so he posted the pics from court blogs or something like that but this is 100% the truth.I still don't get it why would ude do that, yes I said why would ude do that SilentMagician forgot 1 tiny detail ude made those counter fit cards(allegedly).I mean konami didn't do anything like this, then why would ude.America, and Japan are both in economic trouble, but ude couldn't resist that money I guess.

Oww 2 more things that does not tie into this is that ude may have asked konami for ocg cards, but konami made us the tcg exclusive cards.UDE just distributes.

Overall I happy we get retail sneek peek, cause I have to go 30 min north west to Rockville to a store called Dream Wizards, from Herndon VA in Fairfax.Other then that we only have 3 really good core hobby stores in this county. One of the closest to players in the whole Herndon,Chantilly,Centreville,Reston area is Game Parlor even tough it does not have real tourneys,it has the most diverse meta.We can experience some change in this area. And we don't have to be merged with the Maryland Meta. Not only that but we use less gas money.I called Game Parlor about this and told them the number and site,I'm going to call back on Monday to here the big news if we will get a preview.Crossing my fingers.
Blader88 - 27. Jan, 04:39

The Proof isn't necessarily in the pudding

How do you disprove something like that? "See, these papers show we don't know Vintage. Vintage even countersigned and had it notarized when they gave it to us."

This is a great example of how simple inuendo results in a "guilty untill proven innocent" reputation (for EITHER side).

Truthfully, the best points have already been made: 1) Sneak Previews DO need to be large-scale events, though I personally like it being situated the weekend before national release, and 2) Konami DOES need to recognize the good OP platform UDE has built and utilize it. Change the qualifications as you see fit, Konami, but do SOMETHING to ensure quality play control.
